Well, this is a first......
We had a family first this week. While playing and running around with other little friends at church this last Wednesday, Jake jumped off a chair and split open his forehead and we had to take him to the ER to get him all fixed up.
Michael and I were chatting with friends after small group / Route 9. Meanwhile, Jake and Emma were running around with their little friends, like they usually do. Jake ran into the lobby, running and jumping in and out of the padded church chairs. Michael looked away for just a moment and when he looked up, he saw our friend Tina running like crazy over to Jake, who was screaming. Michael went inside thinking he just fell down & was crying.
But, the closer he got, he noticed the gushing blood and followed Tina and a handful of other gals into the kitchen. I was just behind him. It was in the kitchen that I came upon Michael surrounded and being helped by everyone to try and stop all the bleeding from Jake's head. It was bleeding so hard it was squirting vertically off his face! It was awful......and little Jakey was screaming so loud. I was calm until I saw ALL the blood coming from him and started to get really worried. After screaching by our friends Marc & Jen's house to see whether they thought we needed stictches (she's a nurse, he's a paramedic), we decided upon their advice to take him to the ER. Sure enough, he needed to have it medically closed up. The Lord was great though because the ER was dead and Michael walked right in with Jake & had his laceration closed up with a medical superglue instead of stiches and he was as good as new. He got hurt around 8:30pm & he was home and in bed after the hospital by 10:15pm. Besides screaming for the 2 1/2 minutes he had to lay flat on the hospital bed while the thermabond was put on, he was such a trooper. So, this was the first time we've had to go to ER and the first time one of our kiddos have been badly hurt, with uncontrollable bleeding. Scary stuff.
