Michael read in the paper about a neat refuge near Corvallis called the Finley Wildlife Refuge and thought it would be a fun place to go together and do a nature walk, check out birds, bugs and maybe some animals.
When we first got there, it was very pretty but there wasn't a bird or animal to be seen. But it wasn't long after getting out of the car and heading out on a walk, that we discovered this place to be beautiful....full of fun things for us to see & the kids to check out.
The foliage was so pretty and varied. And the kids had a blast on the new 1/4 mile boardwalk ending at a great slough view.
The kids were facinated
by the
thousands
of geese.
Once we started spotting hawks, herons & other birds, the binoculars became a favorite tool of Emma's!
After coming across a 2 foot black snake earlier in the day, Jake's eyes were fixed on the ground looking for another snake. He didn't find another one, but he did find two fuzzy black & orange catapillars. He kept yelling, "Hey!! A snake!!" He didn't want to pick it up, but Emma thought it was so cool to hold it - and they both thought it was especially funny when it curled up into a ball in the palm of her hand.
It was so great to see the kids explore nature in such a gorgeous place. We'll be heading back there in the spring, I'm sure.
